Initiative details

SVUCE alumni association have taken over a long pending initiative to construct a women's hostel in the engineering campus, accommodating 500+ students.

Land for the same (near Chemical Engineering block) is allotted to our alumni association by University.
Bhoomi Pooja is performed on Feb 11 2024.
Phase 1 construction has started on June 2024 and is in progress.

Reminder! - all of us have studied in SVUCE at major subsidized cost (only a nominal cost is paid by the individual), paid for by different funds received by our University and College. As we have made our careers and settled down well, let us consider to give back something constructive to our college.

Show your support and help this major community initiative succeed. This will lay a strong foundation for further engagements and partnerships between our college and alumni.

Background

SVUCE has four boys hostels but does not have a separate women's hostel and is shared with University students. The engineering girls student strength has increased over the years requiring a separate women's hostel and multiple representations have been made to our University and authorities for the same but the cause has not progressed.

In 2016, a US settled alumni (and philanthropist) came forward to construct the hostel at his expenses and University allotted land for the same in 2017. However due to unforeseen personal circumstances and later Covid pandemic (2020 to 2022), the individual could not progress with the project and backed out.

Current engineering girl student strength at the shared hostel - 558 (in 2023)
Rooms available to engineering students in the shared hostel facility - 100
Average number of girl students per room - 5 to 6 (to accommodate all student requests). 90% of the room space is occupied by cots with no space for reading tables.

With the topic of accommodation for women's hostel becoming quite critical in nature, Alumni association has taken over the project instead of returning back the land to University. The land is now reallotted to alumni association and alumni is mobilizing the funds for construction.

First milestone - Phase 1 [In Progress 🏗️]

- First floor - 10 rooms
- Second floor - 10 rooms
- Total - 28 rooms ( 28x4 = 112 students can be accommodated)
- Estimated cost - 4.77 5.5 crore INR (includes Kitchen, Dining hall)
- Estimated timeline - June 2024 to June 2025

Subsequent milestones

Phase 2, 2025 - 10 crores INR - 66 rooms - [Fundraising is in Progress]
Phase 3, 2026 - 10 crores INR - 78 rooms - [Planned]

In addition to alumni contributions, team is working with University authorities, TTD, private institutions and state government, for matching grants to complete construction of all phases as envisioned.

5 crores INR - The hostel shall be named after the individual, group of individuals or batch.
2 crores INR - One wing shall be named after the individual, group of individuals or batch.
10 lakhs INR - Individual, group of individuals or Batch name shall be displayed on the front wall of one room.
1 lakh 50,000 INR - Individual name shall be added to the "List of Donors" displayed at hostel lobby.
Any amount - Individual name with batch year is added to Donors list, official records and published on this website and Alumni website.
Contributions are entitled for IT exemption (50%) under Section 80G vide registration No. AAYAS0338QF20221 dated 01 Dec 2022.
SVUCE Alumni Association, Tirupati is entitled for undertaking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities vide Govt of India, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Registrar of Companies registration No. CSR00046714 dated 06 Feb 2023. Accepting amounts for 2025-26.

Alumni engagement

There are many people who have raised their hands to help in every possible way they can and there is so much ground work happening behind the scenes — sincere “thank you” to everyone involved.
Core team is working with coordinators from each batch. We have a volunteers WhatsApp group with building committee and leads from each batch to enable two way communication and engagement. We meet virtually on a monthly basis to discuss progress and next steps.
If you are leading or willing to lead for your batch, willing to volunteer/support in any other form to the initiative, Contact us.
If you prefer to give back to a different cause, do reach out. There are other alumni initiatives to get involved.
Leaders - Looking for new leaders, new energy, new ideas to take this forward to Phase 2 and 3. Be it the decision making body, building committee, volunteer group or batch leads - you are welcome to join at any of the levels and get involved to scale this initiative further.
Individual Contributions - if you have been deliberating on this topic for a while now, consider the progress made so far and make your contributions now.
Request each batch (B.Tech, M.Tech, Phd) to sponsor as many rooms they can.
Know your Committee members, Volunteers.
Share your appreciation, kudos to the initiative or alumni at Appreciation board.
